To enrol in your first module you must have graduated with a degree accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (the Institute) or hold qualifications approved by the Institute, and have passed subjects in the following core knowledge areas identified for the relevant module:

When enrolling into your first module in the Chartered Accountants Program you will fall under one of the following categories, and have:

  1. an Accredited Australian Bachelor degree or 16 unit Masters degree with passes in subjects covering the core curriculum areas required by the Institute

    Upon enrolment candidates should indicate option A, and must provide a final academic transcript for their accredited degree certified by an Institute accepted authority (see list below) by enrolment close date. Candidates will also need to provide an official letter of completion or bachelor degree certificate if degree completion is not stated on the academic transcript.

    Please note:
    • Combined or Double Degrees
      Candidates studying combined or double degrees must have completed all pre-requisite subjects and show proof of degree completion of at least one of their degrees. The candidate will need to arrange an official letter, signed by the university registrar, stating they have completed all of the requirements of the first degree, and are eligible to graduate.
    • Conceded Passes/Terminating Passes/Low Pass/Near Pass
      Candidates who have any of the above grades on their academic transcript should refer to the Institute's Conceded Pass Policy

  2. completed a comparable non-accounting undergraduate degree and have completed a conversion course accredited by the Institute.

    Upon enrolment candidates should indicate option B, and must provide:
    • a final academic transcript for their undergraduate degree certified by an Institute accepted authority (see list below) by enrolment close date. Candidates will also need to provide an official letter of completion or bachelor degree certificate if degree completion is not stated on the academic transcript.
    • an academic transcript and degree certificate certified by an Institute accepted authority (see list below) for their conversion course.

  3. overseas qualifications that have been assessed and recognised by the Institute and have completed all bridging subjects required by the Institute. Note that if the assessment of overseas qualifications has not been completed you will not be permitted to enrol.

    Upon enrolment candidates should indicate option C, and must provide by enrolment close date:
    • a copy of the previous letter of assessment issued by the Institute.
    • a copy of their overseas academic transcript and degree certificate certified by an Institute accepted authority (see list below).
    • a copy of their academic transcript certified by an Institute accepted authority (see list below) listing results for the required bridging subjects.

    Holders of the following partially recognised overseas qualifications are not required to have their qualifications assessed prior to enrolment:
    • approved courses at Nanyang Technological University or Singapore Management University
    • current members of ICA India, CIMA or ACCA

Please note: Candidates enrolling into their first module are required to submit their certified academic documents to the Institute by enrolment close date of that module. Exceptions to this will only be offered in the following circumstances:

  • The candidate holds a bachelor degree and is currently completing any required bridging subjects. The candidate will be given until two weeks prior to module commencement to submit outstanding documents. All other documents must be submitted by enrolment close.
  • The candidate has completed a bachelor degree and all required subjects, and is currently awaiting their final transcript and degree confirmation. The candidate will be given until two weeks prior to module commencement to submit outstanding documents. All other documents must be submitted by enrolment close.

    Appropriate authorities for certification of academic documents
    All documents submitted must be officially certified as true copies of the original document. The person/agent certifying documents must confirm that they have seen and compared the original to the copy that they are certifying and that it is a true copy. The full name, address, signature and title of the person/agent certifying the documents must be included as part of the certification.

    The following persons/agents are acceptable authorities for certifying academic documents for the Institute:

    • Australian Chartered Accountant (must include membership number)
    • Australian embassy consulate/high commission staff
    • University official (must include university stamp in addition to signature)
    • Notary public
    • Solicitor, legal practitioner, magistrate
    • Justice of the peace
    • Commissioner for declarations
    • Commissioner for affidavits
    • Commissioner for oaths
    • Police officer (in Australia only)
    • Pharmacist (in Australia only)
    • Postal manager (in Australia only)
    • Australian Registered Migration Agent (must include MARA registration number)

    Notes about the return of academic documents:

    • You can authorise your University to send us these documents directly, however, they will not be returned.
    • If you post original documents, please provide a reply paid envelope for these to be returned.
